About Jessica Victoria
Jessica Victoria, 22, is a mental health advocate and freelancer from Ontario, Canada. Whether it’s working, volunteering, or helping someone through tough times, she is dedicated to everything she does. She is familiar with the struggles of depression, anxiety disorders and borderline personality traits, as she tackles them head-on in her daily life.
Jessica loves to be educated on psychology and has taken many psychology courses at Niagara College, including a four-day seminar where she got a Mental Health First Aid certificate. She graduated from Niagara College for Journalism in June 2016. As part of her program, she wrote for Niagara News, the school’s community newspaper. She also did a three-month placement at a town-based newspaper, Voice of Pelham.
Jessica likes to volunteer her time helping others. She volunteered at a kid’s summer camp in the summers of 2014 and 2016. In the past, she has spent time in chat rooms and forums advising people with whatever they are struggling with. She has been writing for this blog since October 2014, wanting nothing out of it but to help more and more people.
When Jessica is struggling with her own mental health, she relies on her friends, music, writing, and self care. It is also important for her mental health to set goals and keep busy, as it keeps her motivated and fulfilled. When she has down time, she is usually talking to her friends or with them. Her friends are the most important people in her life. She loves making new friends and socializing, and can be seen at comedy nights and PRIDE nights. When she has alone time, she enjoys writing, watching Netflix and YouTube, and listening to music.
Demi Lovato’s journey is a contribution to Jessica’s mission. Demi also struggles with her own mental health issues and is an advocate for mental health and human rights. It wasn’t until she starting speaking about these topics and helping her fans when Jessica realized how much words can help someone. That’s how she decided she wanted to start advocating and writing about mental health.
When people confide in Jessica and tell her she helped them, it motivates her to keep doing what she’s doing. She is so open and honest because, as she always says, “If I help at least one person, then it’s worth it.”
About This Blog
Jessica started this blog after she met Demi Lovato in 2014. She made a promise to stay strong and never give up. This was a life changing experience for her, especially after being taken to the ER the month prior. The promise didn’t fix everything but in her heart, she felt it was something she could count and rely on if she every felt like giving up.
Jessica felt she could do more though. So in honour of that promise, she created this blog to share her journey and knowledge in hopes to help others. Using experiences, knowledge and research, she writes about many different topics, such as mental health, coping skills/techniques, motivation, confidence, human rights, and relationships.
