Transit gone bad

The transit company that takes me to school everyday has turned into a nightmare.

Starting this week, my usual transit system has been taken over by a different company, who has no idea what they’re doing. They don’t tell us what time we’re being picked up, they booked two wheelchairs when it’s a one wheelchair accessible van (leaving a wheelchair behind), they ask US how to hook up the chair, they stop for gas while doing a service, they go the wrong way, they show up very early, they show up very late, they don’t show up at all. Needless to say, these people are not trained at all. At least they know how to drive..

I wouldn’t be surprised if this system fell apart by the end of next week.

As a student journalist, I don’t really have the time for this.  I have tight deadlines and people relying on me. I can’t be late to go to school, or to an interview. I can’t be late to go home either, to do more work. Every minute counts.

Not only is this wrong, but this is causing me unnecessary anxiety and frustration. I go to bed worrying if I’m going to make it to school on time, or at all. If they’re late to pick me up, I panic and wonder if they are coming at all. I get anxious because I know I have places to go and people to see.

I feel like they fail to see us as people.

The company before them were not that reliable either. They showed up late more times then I can count. When a bus broke down, they failed to provide another bus or have a back up plan.

What if they’re still messing up when I’m in placement or have a job? Excuses won’t be a thing anymore. If I can’t show up for an assignment, my story won’t run. If they make me late too many times, I’ll be seen as unreliable, even if it’s not my fault, which will give me a bad reputation, or worse, get me fired.

It shouldn’t be this difficult. Get trained, follow your schedule, do things right. Also, listen to complaints, you may learn a thing or two.

Also, I haven’t been able to write anything for this blog since the middle of October because of school and my school/community newspaper. I really miss writing for this blog. School is dying down because winter break is coming. I plan on writing for this blog a lot the next month or so. So stay tuned!

Stay strong lovelies <3
