I realized I was bisexual a year ago, so I was 19. I felt like a torn and confused 10 year old, grabbing on to any help I could get. I felt like I had taken a steps backwards from figuring out my life. I felt like I was a whole different person and that I needed to adjust my life because of it. I had no idea what this meant for me, or what to do. I’m still not 100% comfortable because it’s still new to me, but I’m getting there. Thankfully, I had, and still have lots of support from friends and counselors.
This past week was pride week where I live. I feel like this past week has helped me a lot. This was the first pride week I have attended since I just recently figured out that I am bisexual. It was amazing. I was so happy all week long. This week has made me even more proud of who I am. It made me feel more comfortable with my sexuality. I felt like I belonged at these events and in the LGBT community. I plan on keeping my pride from here on. I am bisexual and I’m proud of it. I know what it means for me now and I am comfortable with the fact that I am different, in a good way.
I met some amazing people this week and created memories I’ll never forget. The people at these events were so nice and welcoming. I noticed that they were very happy and cheerful in the setting as well. We were able to forget all about our troubles and have fun. It was so refreshing.
I got to meet Justin Preston from Rise Against Bullying who won an award for community involvement. I’ve been a supporter for a few years now and am SO happy I finally got to meet him and spend time with him this week. He made me so happy. He is one of the sweetest, warmest, most genuine people I have ever met. Thank you for all your hugs and kind words. My heart melted. You’re amazing! Thank you for everything you do for everyone. You deserved that award. I’m so proud of you. You inspire me to try my best to help others, and you make me so proud to be a part of the LGBT community. I just want to say thank you to Pride Niagara for everything this week, as well as everything you’ll continue to do. Looking forward to many years to come.
Stay strong lovelies <3
